FormscanBy Tom Weekes - TRANCHEE ran a fine race on debut last September and might be able to make a winning return today. A very well bred type (his Galileo sired dam is closely related to two Group 1 winners), he appeared thoroughly green on debut at Naas before staying on well late-on in a hot maiden won by 2,000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia. He doesn't have any Stakes entries and makes his return a little later than ideal but looks the type to do well in time and should comfortably win his maiden. Morpho Blue was just 1.6L behind the selection in that dramatic Naas race, where Morpho Blue brought down two rivals. Morpho Blue herself proved her own smart ability when she was chinned late-on by smart performer Happen at Leopardstown in October. She too has no fancy entries and is also slightly late returning to action but winning a maiden also looks a formality, albeit she needs to turn form with the selection today. Balefire is race-fit and ran well here latest but might prove vulnerable to smart types today while Pacific Ocean has disappointed thus far and is now tried in first-time cheek-pieces.
