FormscanBy Eamonn Murphy - His Grade 1 winning half-brother, Conna Castle never had much luck in his forays around Gowran but CASTLE WINGS should go well off an opening mark in this sphere of 120. Third in the bumper here on this card two years ago, the Winged Love gelding was a neck runner-up in a maiden hurdle at this venue on another occasion and unfortunately that has been the story of his life to some extent – running into the placings a lot more than winning. However he does know how to get across the line in front, with a couple of victories to his name, and he'll likely be primed for a big performance now. Of course the Mangans have a big tradition with this day, with Whinstone Boy (won the Thyestes in 2010) and June's Friend (won the Thyestes in 1981). The very much in form Lookoutnow (first handicap chase) has to be respected and similar comments apply to Jack Bene and Quiet Thought. It'll be interesting to see what the market makes of the first-time blinkered Steady Ed and he'd have to enter calculations if strong in the betting.
