The nine-year-old was originally bought by current connections as a jumping prospect but has really come into his own as a stayer on the Flat and was placed twice in the Melbourne Cup. He went down narrowly to stable-companion Thomas Hobson in the Doncaster Cup last year, and was placed again on his reappearance over an extreme distance at Royal Ascot. The King won a Gowran Park maiden as a juvenile and has been a consistent sort since including when placed behind Rostropovich in a Group 3 at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend. He was again far from disgraced this term behind Magical in the Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh.
