You would think BIRDS OF PREY would be up to winning a maiden. He put in a good effort here last August when beaten a length and a quarter into second place by subsequent Epsom Derby hero Wings Of Eagles. On his seasonal reappearance at Naas last month, he ran on well without threatening in sixth after being nicely backed. He should come on for the run and looks the one to beat. One proviso is that the form of that race doesn't look particularly strong as none of the horses that have been out since have won. He has the fitness advantage over Sometimes A Fox though, who made a very pleasing debut at Dundalk when runner-up in December. Several winners have come out of that race so he has to be respected for a shrewd stable. Blinkers are tried on Artistic Melody after three placed efforts from six runs. She was third at Roscommon last week in a race where Breeze was the beaten favourite back in fifth. Both have the ability to get in the hunt for prize money if firing on all cylinders.
