FormscanBy Gary Carson - The Irish Champion Stakes has gone for export for the past seven years and that trend can continue here with ELARQAM. The Frankel colt seems to finally be living up to his early promise this season and is ready to step up and prove himself to be a genuine Group one performer. Jim Crowley genuinely seemed to think he was cost a winning chance when getting hemmed in at a crucial stage in the Juddmonte at York last month and that was a cracking run. It's hard to argue with the form as Japan appears the stand out colt from the classic generation and Crystal Ocean was the world's top-rated horse going into the race. Connections stumped up the cash to supplement Elarqam for this and that decision can reap rewards. Roger Charlton won this a couple of years ago with Decorated Knight and Headman looks another progressive horse that has to be respected. He has been building nicely, winning a couple of Group 2s in France, but this is another jump in class now. Magical is a worthy favourite for the race and it will be a relief for her not to face the brilliant Enable for once. Her form is rock solid but strictly on the book there isn't a lot between her and Elarqam through a line with Crystal Ocean, who beat her at Royal Ascot. The daughter of Galileo is a cracking filly but may be the bridesmaid again against a horse on an upward curve. Madhmoon would be a very popular winner for Kevin Prendergast and he is a Derby runner-up. The mile was too short for him here in his prep run and he won nicely in spite of that. He is a classy horse and can't de discounted in what is a open looking renewal.
