FormscanBy Donal Murphy - SPANISH STEPS gets the nod here over Eziyra. The selection done well to win the Group 3 Ballyroan Stakes over the course and distance in June, beating Group 1 winning stable mate Johannes Vermeer into second. He acted as a pacemaker on his most recent effort in the Great Voltigeur at York, and so that run can be discounted. Ryan Moore has opted to ride the selection over Aidan O'Brien's other two runners in the line-up%3B US Army Ranger and Exemplar. The latter has been disappointing so far this season, but is tried in blinkers for the first time now. Eziyra has yet to finish outside the first three in seven career starts to date, and another good effort can be expected from her. She was third in the Irish Oaks on her penultimate start, winning the Group 3 Give Thanks Stakes at Cork on her most recent outing. She seems versatile ground wise, and it's interesting to note that her trainer Dermot Weld has won this race the last three years in-a-row.
