FormscanBy Donal Murphy - ALEXIOS KOMNENOS is the selection here. He won on debut at the Curragh in June of last year, before going down by just a neck to Churchill on his next start in the Group 3 Tyros Stakes. The son of Choisir was third to True Valor on his first start as a three-year-old in the Listed Celebration Stakes in July, but was in need of that run which was his first for almost a year. He registered his second career success when taking the Group 3 Desmond Stakes over the course and distance just last month, with Custom Cut and True Valor, who re-oppose here, both behind in third and ninth respectively. Custom Cut won this race in 2015, and was second to Awtaad twelve months ago. He clearly enjoys his trips to Leopardstown, and another good effort looks likely from him now. David O'Meara trains Custom Cut and he is also represented by Suedois who is the highest rated runner in the line-up. He hasn't managed to win a race since August of 2015, but recent efforts would suggest a victory isn't far away. Sir John Lavery was a good winner of a Listed contest at Cork last month, and he is sure to have plenty of supporters with Ryan Moore in the saddle. Psychedelic Funk is another one worth a mention. He didn't enjoy the clearest of runs on his most recent start at Killarney, and he is tried in blinkers for the first time now.
