FormscanBy Eamonn Murphy - Gordon Elliott said of Outlander in Tuesday's Evening Herald: "Runs in the race he won last year (Christmas Chase, Thursday) but he's either very good or very bad. He has a massive engine but if he wins one Grade One a year that'll do me." Meanwhile on another Gigginstown contender, Road To Respect, Noel Meade said the following in the Irish Field last weekend: "It's a brilliant race (Leopardstown Christmas Chase) headed by a good Gold Cup winner in Sizing John, who came back in great form at Punchestown, and Yorkhill who looks a monster. My horse has to improve 10 to 12Ibs to get close to Jessie's horse. I know he's won a Grade 1 race as a novice but he's into open company now and it's a totally different ball game. Road to Respect has had two runs this year, winning at Punchestown, and then finishing second in the JNwine.com Chase at Down Royal. We were disappointed with the latter as it looked like at all stages through the race that he'd win. He came down to the last still going really well but he jumped left and just landed a bit flat as opposed to Gordon's horse (Outlander) who got away from the fence a lot quicker, which just took its toll on our lad. Just looking at his two runs this season, you'd have to think Road To Respect will be better going left, so hopefully that will improve him at Leopardstown." Paul Townend commented on Yorkhill in 'the Field' - "It will be some race with the likes of Sizing John looking as if he'll go there. He has so much raw ability - if you get him in a good head space. I think he definitely has the talent, but it will be tough taking on race-fit horses on his first start of the season. I don't think three miles will be a problem for him as his pedigree suggests he should stay." As former champ Townend suggested it will be tough for Yorkhill taking on a race-fit SIZING JOHN, so I can't go against the Potts and Harrington star. It's worth noting what Eddie O'Leary said on Valseur Lido in the Irish Field too - "Valseur Lido could be our main hope. He had a fracture last season and then he was due to run at Down Royal but he had a trapped epiglottis so we kept him back. I think he might be a little under the radar now as he is a little bit forgotten about. I think he and Disko could be our best staying chasers this year. If all the top horses like Sizing John and Yorkhill turn up, it will be a proper test - the race of the year so far."
