FormscanBy Alan Magee - DOUVAN is one of the most exciting jump horses currently in training, and is sure to go off a red-hot favourite. The French import has been imperious since joining Willie Mullins, and continued his unbeaten run for the champion trainer when reappearing in the Hilly Way at Cork earlier this month. He’s taken the Supreme Novices Hurdle and the Arkle Chase at the past two Cheltenham Festivals, and can take this en route to the Queen Mother Champion Chase in March. Sizing John must be sick of the sight of Douvan, and has come up short in six previous meetings with the selection. He was seven lengths behind when runner-up in the Arkle at Cheltenham last March, and has joined Jessica Harrington from Henry de Bromhead over the summer. Black Hercules is quite versatile trip wise but may find this step back just a little bit too sharp. The JLT Novice Chase winner has a bit to prove following an underwhelming reappearance at Punchestown. Simply Ned is a consistent sort if a little short of real Grade 1 class. He was only pegged back close home when runner-up to Flemenstar in this race 12 months ago, and should come here in mint condition after a couple of runs this term.
