He has shown a useful level of ability in his bumpers and having been placed in a Galway festival bumper (the sixth and ninth placed horses won subsequently), he won his third bumper easily at Downpatrick. He is clearly useful on good ground and is a notable first ride back for Davy Russell who has been absent since the Galway festival. Pienta was beaten by ill-fated Sir Erec on hurdles debut and by the smart Carlo Biraghi on both his previous hurdle outings. Pienta's latest defeat, to Carlo Biraghi, looked a useful effort but the form of the other beaten horses has taken quite a few knocks in the interim and the lack of a recent outing could count against Pienta today, against a race-fit SOLDIERS HILL. Jon Ess is a capable performer both on the flat and over hurdles and while he has yet to win in any of his nine previous jumps starts, should again go well today, with trip and ground in his favour. Advanced Virgo has shown useful flat and hurdles form, didn't run too badly at Killarney latest and is another who could get involved at the business end today.
