FormscanBy Tom Weekes - NICHOLS CANYON has found an excellent opportunity to add to his six Grade 1 wins thus far and should prove difficult to beat. He won this race last year when upsetting Faugheen, and while he failed to reach the very top subsequently, did finish third both the Cheltenham and Aintree Hurdles. His latest effort was when third in the Iroquois Hurdle in May but that was over three miles and could also be considered to be an after-thought in his seasonal programme. Jer’s Girl, the likely second-favourite, she is a dual Grade 1 winning novice hurdler from last season, but missed an engagement at Navan recently (on veterinary advice) and now takes on older open horses for the first time. She clearly has huge ability but it would be a surprise to see her overturn the selection. Sempre Medici is a fine horse in his own right but has failed to beat the selection in three starts and lacks a gear at this level. Simenon’s latest two efforts were very disappointing and while very capable at best, might still struggle to win while Ivanovich Gorbatov’s reappearance run at Naas leaves him with plenty to do and doesn’t advertise last year’s juvenile form.%0A
