Kevin Prendergast’s gelding came in third over this trip in the Apprentice Derby at the Curragh towards the end of June but notably he had two useful sorts in front of him. Maze Runner has been a beaten favourite on three of his six outings so comes with risks. Smiling Eliza was fourth in the Apprentice Derby, a neck behind Moktamel but is slightly worse off at the weights today. Despite that, she ought to be in the hunt after a solid runner-up finish over hurdles in Roscommon. Maricruz isn’t proven at this trip but did comfortably win over an extended mile and a quarter in Sligo. She has gone up 8lb but Shane Crosse’s claim almost offsets that, so she is given plenty of respect.
