Scienter overcame a long absence to take the Family Bank Holiday Racing INH Flat Race under Kevin Power for Christy Roche. Owned by Power's father John, the five-year-old son of Shantou made his debut at Galway last July, finishing sixth of twenty behind Cul Baire. Running for the first time since, he was 5/1 this morning with Paddy Power, opening on-course at 4/1 (touching 9/2) before going off the 10/3 second favourite. He chased the leaders in the early stages and he was third at the halfway point. He was ridden to challenge three furlongs from home, hitting the front over two furlongs out, keeping on well from there to score by two and a quarter lengths. Masirann kept on well to take second at 20/1 under Rachel Blackmore for John Hanlon while You Can’t Catch Me (40/1) finished a length back in third under Paul Power for Kieran Purcell, but was subsequently disaqualified (see below). The David O’Brien trained Truth Be Told was sent off the 3/1 favourite but he could only manage a disappointing fourteenth. Kevin Power said afterwards: "He ran a lovely race the first day at Galway when he wasn’t fully fit and he’s had his share of problems since. "It was nice to get the win and hopefully he will win a few hurdles"

We weren’t expecting that although having said that he always works well and runs well when he is fresh. We’ll give him a break now for a couple of weeks and find something for him.
After race at Thurles Sat, 23rd Mar, 2019 (1st)
He's a right little horse but we we were away from Clonmel today!. He needs fast ground and my horses are in great order. We'll tip away with him for the summer in novices and he could also go back hurdling and on the Flat too. We'll run in whatever comes up and suits once we get fast ground.
After race at Limerick Fri, 22nd Jun, 2018 (1st)
He loves that ground and it couldn't be quick enough for him. Hopefully we'll have a summer like this!. We might go to Galway for the amateur handicap and will probably get into it now and he'll run if the ground is suitable.
After race at Clonmel Fri, 8th Jun, 2018 (1st)
He loves it here and what he wants is good ground and Clonmel. Two and a half miles is his trip and he had everything in his favour today. I didn't look to see what was coming up and while he needs two miles on the Flat, there aren't many of those races around but the Flat is a possibility. There should be more races in Clonmel for us!
After race at Clonmel Thu, 4th May, 2017 (1st)
He loves this place and that's his fourth win here. He loves the track and loves the ground,. It wasn't a surprise - we were expecting him to run well but thought he might need the run. He's a bit big in himself but maybe he was fitter than we thought. He'll go back jumping now although if something turns up on the flat we might be tempted by that, but we prefer the national hunt!
After race at Clonmel Fri, 10th Jun, 2016 (1st)
He is after improving half a stone since the last day here. I thought the ground was a little softer today and that it might catch him out but he handled it lovely.
After race at Clonmel Thu, 19th May, 2016 (1st)
Things are going well and he loves that ground - it's what he has been crying out for,. He'll tip away for the summer and will stay hurdling while the ground is like that - he'll jump a fence too no problem.
After race at Downpatrick Mon, 26th Aug, 2013 (1st)
He is a tough little horse. We have been riding him the wrong way in behind, he needs to be ridden from the front. There could be another one in him as he didn't have a hard race there. We will go for a winners bumper in Galway but it has to be good ground. He is owned by my granddaughter Elaine.
