Narrowly denied in the first split, Gavin Ryan got a win on the board in division two of the Blacklion Dairy Discussion Group 40th Anniversary Apprentice Handicap at Killarney courtesy of Danehill Quest

Thirty five minutes earlier Ryan's mount Time Queen came up just a head short, but the County Tipperary youngster wasn't taking no for an answer this time.

He got Sheila Lavery's Danehill Quest (11s into 9s) up near the finish to beat Paved With Gold by a neck.

"He has got tons of ability but you have to cod him into it. He is getting better and stronger with each run and he was just touched off at Leopardstown," said Ms Lavery.

"I'll look for more of the same and I'm hoping he'll come forward from winning now - sometimes they know they've won.

"Lady Kaya is due to run on Sunday (Debutante Stakes); they (owners) are very brave and she'll run in the same colours of my niece Joanne and John (brother).

"I nearly wasn't going to come here and was going to go back home each day but Robbie Colgan (her work-rider and jockey) just looked at me and said 'are you going to ride her out yourself?"

"We are minding her as best we can and it's all systems go for Sunday."

Ms Lavery and Ryan had earlier combined with third placer Mr Ormsby in race three.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Rosin Box trained by John Joseph Murphy, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be clinically abnormal post race.

D.M. Redmond, rider of Rosin Box trained by John Joseph Murphy, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount lost its action turning into the straight.
