A Likely Story opened his account at the 25th attempt when benefitting from a strong drive by Danny Sheehy to land the LMFM Family Fun Day Sunday May 6th Handicap at Dundalk.

The five-year-old gelding had made the frame on numerous occasions and, following a winter break and a promising reappearance here last month, came here in fine fettle.

The 10/1 chance, formerly trained by Dermot Weld and rated 82 two years ago, tracked the leaders and struck the front a furlong out before staying on gamely under pressure inside the final furlong.

The Tom McCourt-trained gelding beat top-weight Annie Fior by three quarters of a length, with Seanie coming home well just a short-head further away in third.

McCourt said, “He was down the right end of the handicap. I thought six furlongs was more his trip but he was very well at home.

“The only thing putting me off is that he hadn't won before although he was competitive off 80 here a couple of years ago. Hopefully there might be another race or two in him.”
