Brave Anna and Roly Poly gave Aidan O'Brien a surprise one-two as the pair upstaged Lady Aurelia in the Connolly's Red Mills Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Wesley Ward's American speed machine looked like landing the honours when she took her five rivals well into the final furlong, but Lady Aurelia emptied under Frankie Dettori in the last 50 yards.

That let in the O'Brien duo, who finally reduced the deficit and got past her close home.

Seamie Heffernan drove Brave Anna (25-1) past the post a short head in front of her stablemate. Lady Aurelia was third and Frankel's daughter Queen Kindly slightly disappointing in fourth.

Heffernan said: "Aidan had her there for today. The filly that made the running was top class, but Aidan just keeps that little bit for Group Ones.

"I thought I'd won."

O'Brien - winning his first Cheveley Park - said: "It was a very competitive race and a very hard one to win. It takes a very good filly to win it.

"We were delighted. The two fillies ran great races. When they got together, they helped each other. Wesley's filly is very good and she went very fast and the wind out front probably didn't help her.

"Ours have been two good fillies all year. Roly Poly has been progressing and we thought Brave Anna was very good when she won at Royal Ascot. She probably got tired in the Moyglare and Seamie gave her a great ride today.

"Her owner Mrs Stockwell said after it went wrong in the Moyglare we could come back here over six and she was dead right.

"We knew there was going to be pace and that would suit her."
