Another Sligo bumper win for Kelly

Chestnut Kate continued her trainer Noel Kelly's excellent recorded at Sligo as she ran out a four and a half length winner of the last race on the card the R.S.S Storage Flat Race under jockey Steven Fox.

The 4yo newcomer by Le Vie Del Colori (who also sired Colour Of Love, who won at Naas on Wednesday), was never too far off the pace and was ridden to led before the straight.

The 11/8 favourite Millers Reef for Barry O'Neill & Colin Bowe looked to be going better at that stage but he was soon off the bridle as the winner pulled out more to score at 10/3.

The winning jockey Stephen Fox, who is just sixteen years old from Co Leitrim was enjoying his second success under rules having had two point-to-point winners as well.

Based with Scottish trainer Lucinda Russell, his first success came a fortnight ago tomorrow at Musselburgh, when he rode Los Nadis to victory for trainer Jim Goldie in a two mile flat handicap.

The winning owner Eddie Byrne from Dreaperstown, Co Derry bred the winning filly himself and he said "Noel (Kelly) is in England as he had a runner over there.

"Her sire stood at Rathbarry Stud but was killed after he broke his leg in just his second season standing.”

Mark Fahey rider of the third placed horse Kilcross Boy received a three day ban from the stewards after he was adjudged to have use his whip with excessive force.
