Approach gains deserved success

Apt Approach atoned for his unlucky defeat at Thurles last time when running out a cosy winner of the 2m1f beginners chase at Clonmel.

Ruby Walsh made all on the gelding and he kept on well in the closing stages when tackled by Taradoun to post a three-length verdict.

Willie Mullins charge had looked set for a winning debut over fences last time before a last fence blunder.

"We'll try and find a winners of one after the New Year for him," said Mullins afterwards.

"We'll try and let him learn his trade without taking on the big guns. His jumping leaves a lot to be desired but he will improve."
