Trainer Eric McNamara registered his first win since taking September's Kerry National when his Medicinal Compound landed the Newton Abbot Races Handicap Hurdle at Limerick today.

Ridden by Rob Jones, the son of Dr Fong led from two out but needed to work hard to on the run-in to hold the late challenge of Baresi by a short head.

Afterwards McNamara stated “I bought him at the Newmarket Horses In Training Sales and he was a cheap horse (2,500Gns) who has now won his maiden and handicap hurdle.

“He has done well and hopefully the handicapper isn't too hard on him – we'll go for something similar next.”
