The Big Dog has been put away for the rest of the season following his bumper victory at Naas.

Trainer Peter Fahey is giving the five-year-old a long break before bringing him back for a hurdling campaign in the autumn.

"We were delighted with The Big Dog's win," said Fahey.

"He's a very big horse and he's going to get a little bit of time.

"He needs a bit of a trip and I think a winner's bumper is out of the question with him.

"We've decided to leave him off and come back early autumn for a hurdle campaign.

"The owners were chasing a win for a long time and they got a good buzz out of it.

"In fairness there was no point going on straight away for a winner's bumper. He'll be left a novice for next year."
