A drop back in trip proved just the ticket for Battleroftheboyne who recorded his second victory of the season in the Panoramic Restaurant At Naas Racecourse Apprentice Handicap.

The durable six-year-old gelding, winner now of five races for Larry Mulvany and his trainer son Mick, finished strongly over the minimum trip to justify support at 8/1 (from 10's).

Robbie Downey 's mount had a length and a half to spare at the line over Danz Gift with Ability N Delivery another length away in third.

Mick Mulvany said, "I thought he ran a big race at Galway but he just didn't get the trip. Five or six furlongs is his trip or an easy seven but he would not get it in Galway.

"There has to be a slight ease in that ground (officially good to firm) as he won't let himself down otherwise. There is certainly no jar in it."

The stewards were busy after this race and David Fitzpatrick was given a 21 days suspension under Rule 212 (running and riding) after staying on late into eighth on the Shane Duffy-trained Roryslittlesister

Robbie Dolan also picked up a one day careless riding ban after causing interference to a number of horses close home on sixth-placed Western Seaboard
