Brega swoops late under Cash

Slane handler Pat Downey recorded his second winner under rules since taking out a restricted licence last November when Brega Queen came out of the clouds to land the Toals Bookmakers-sponsored 2m6f handicap hurdle.

The 9/2 chance appeared to have little hope when towards the rear of the field on the downhill approach to the final flight.

However the six-year-old mare dug deep for Barry Cash, replacing Robbie Colgan who was stood down after an earlier fall, to head Ever Dreaming (8/1) in the closing stages.

Downey said: “She lost her action with a circuit to go and would be better on a level track. I may bring her to Bellewstown which is not too far from me, and she could also go to Galway.”
