Amateur rider Kevin Brogan (18) rode his first winner when guiding the Gordon Elliott-trained Askari to success in the John Lynch Carpets Handicap Hurdle at Navan.

Owned by Swindon Town and Waterford FC supremo Lee Power, Askari was rewarded after some consistent efforts to beat Lady Quill by six lengths.

Elliott was at Aintree to principally supervise his Becher Chase runners and Brogan explained: "I’m with Gordon nearly a year now and that’s my first winner from about 14 rides.

“I’m from Kill, Co Kildare but have no real background in racing. I just fell into it, and graduated from the racing school (RACE).”

P. Townend, rider of Treacysenniscorthy trained by Paul W. Flynn, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly left in the straight.

B.J. Cooper, rider of Theturnofthesun trained by Matthew J. Smith, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount broke down.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Eviscerating trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

The Stewards fined Sean Aherne, trainer, €350 for lodging a passport in respect of Ask And Answer, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91.

The Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Ask And Answer in accordance with the provisions of Rule 90.
