Expensive point-to-point purchase Captain Von Trappe went some way to redeeming his reputation when making it third time lucky on the racecourse, by winning the Network Ireland Kildare Branch Supporting International Women's Day Maiden Hurdle at Naas today, for owners Gigginstown House Stud.

The winner had been beaten twice since current connections purchased him for 115,000stg in May 2014 following his point-to-point win but the son of Germany today did better.

Ridden by Davy Condon, the Gordon Elliott trained gelding improved to lead entering the home straight, and while untidy at the final flight, stayed on gamely to 6/5f Golden Boot by a length.

Condon later stated "he stays well and didn't run too bad the last day. A good few winners came out of that race and he enjoys that three miles."
