There was a sporting incident at the first in the straight with a circuit to go in the Roscommon On-Course Vets Handicap Chase, where Danny Mullins on Clondaw Dude pushed Jody McGarvey back into the plate after his mount, Old Supporter blundered. That 5/1 chance was forced to soon pull up as McGarvey was without irons, and his fellow second favourite Colms Dream (Donagh Meyler up) was the one to eventually come out on top.
Colms Dream was soon in front after the aforementioned incident, and he travelled well to the straight.
Karl Thornton 's nicely backed charge (from 6s on track) went on to put the race to bed in fair style when asked, stretching on by nine and a half lengths from Churchfield Champ
"I think the key to him is the weight - he is better off a light weight in competitive handicaps," suggested Thornton.
"He jumps like a buck for a small horse and that ground is as quick as he'd like it. He might go to Down Royal now for a two and a half mile chase at the end of next month."
J.S. McGarvey, rider of Old Supporter, trained by Denis W. Cullen, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount made a bad mistake which caused him to lose his irons and left him with no choice but to pull up.
K.C. Sexton, rider of Uponthe Hoof trained by T.J. Taaffe, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount cocked his jaw at the start, lost considerable ground, eventually tired in running and was consequently pulled up.
