Jockey Bryan Cooper recorded his third career treble at Galway today (44.5/1), completing the hat-trick on Lyreen Legend who was providing trainer Dessie Hughes with a double of his own, in the W.B. Gavin & Co EBF Beginners Chase.

Cooper made the running and while a slow jump at the second last saw him headed briefly on the short run to the last, the Grade 2 winning hurdler quickened clear inside the final furlong for a two and a quarter lengths win over Ipsos Du Berlais

Afterwards Hughes, who also supplied Cooper's opening winner Kilavalley stated “that was a godo performance and he is a lovely horse. He jumped beautifully and quickened well.

“He has a lovely way of jumping but while I don't know immediate plans, I hope we'll be around for the Dr P.J. Moriarty Chase in December!

“He was a few lengths off Grade 1 standard over fences but stays three miles well, loves soft ground, is by a very good sire (Saint Des Saints) – what more do you want!”
