Curragh Ground Too Quick For Weld Filly

Dermot Weld thinks the dry weather will prevent him from running Making Light in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas on Sunday.

Owned by Moyglare Stud, the Tamayuz filly won two of her three starts as a juvenile, including the Group Three Killavullan Stakes.

Weld is keen to test her against the best, but her need for cut in the ground is likely to see her miss out on the fillies' Classic.

"The intention is to run, providing we get plenty of rain, which is doubtful," Weld told At The Races.

"I want to run but I'd say she's unlikely as she loves a nice ease in the ground. It's beautiful weather, the track is in great shape, but getting faster all the time.

"Unless we had a dramatic change in the weather, she won't run.

"She's a very good Group-winning filly, but she really loves an ease in the ground and we'll wait until we get it for her."

The latest ground description issued by the racecourse this morning is: Going:Straight- Good. Round- Good, Good to Firm in places. Weather forecast:Dry today and tomorrow, showers thereafter. Selective watering on Round course.

Success Days, the main challenger to Minding in Sunday's Tattersalls Gold Cup according to the bookmakers, is also an "unlikely" runner according to trainer Ken Condon.

The five-year-old, second in the Alleged Stakes on his reappearance, is something of a mud-lover and Condon fears the ground will be too fast.

"I'd say it's very unlikely. He's all dressed up and we want to get him out," Condon told At The Races.

"He's working very well and as he missed out on the Mooresbridge as well it's frustrating, but it's black and white with him.

"There is a bit of rain around but they are talking about watering, so it's very unlikely.

"It's a shame because I'm struggling to see what else is there for him, but we've learned in the past he's very much ground dependant so it looks unlikely."
