Daffodil blooms back in trip

The well-known Nelius Hayes colours got a successful airing when White Daffodil came out best in a blanket finish to division two of the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap under Johnny Killahena (his 2nd winner) at Cork.

Tim Carroll (received a 10 day ban) on the favourite First In Command eased up briefly at the fifty yard marker and this may have been crucial as he went down by a head to White Daffodil. A short head back in third were the dead-heaters Majestic Pearl and Under Review

White Daffodil was having his second start here for Joe Murphy and he said: "She disappointed in the Curragh when we expected her to run a bigger race. That was her first run for me though and we dropped her in trip and he gave her a good ride.

"It is my first winner with my first horse for the owner. I'm delighted as our families go back a long way."

Risk Of Thunder, Back In Front and Tranquil Sea are some of the good horses to race in the Hayes orange and purple diamonds before.

White Daffodil won at Nottingham when trained by Richard Hannon last year.
