Shanklys Dawn made use of her light weight to land a gamble in the Download The Ladbrokes App Handicap Chase at Downpatrick.
It was only by a nose that Adam Short's mount got there to deny Quickasyoucan though the margin of victory will matter little to those that backed the grey from 14/1 into 7/1.
Six to four favourite Bold Sky finished three and a quarter lengths back in third but there was no denying Shanklys Dawn her first racecourse win on start number twenty five.
The daughter of Mountain High does have a point-to-point win to her name.
Winning trainer Philip Rothwell said: "She eventually got her luck. I thought she was going to win in Down Royal but she sort of got brought down at the second last.
"I ran her back in Thurles and it just came a bit quick for her.
"I went to Hereford for niceish ground and I got off the boat and it rained for 48 hours so eventually she got a bit of luck.
"I think with a bit of confidence she can follow up and win another chase. She's a summer mare and will tip away for the summer.
"I'm delighted for James Guilfoyle (owner, a Tipperary man) who is the most amazing owner and supporter and Adam (Short) gave her a very good ride, he was very positive on her the whole way.
"I fancied her big time. My horses are all running really well but we needed a winner."
The Stewards interviewed A.W. Short, rider of Shanklys Dawn, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who admitted that his last two uses of the whip fell short of where they should have landed.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that A.W. Short was in breach of Regulation 10.3 (e) in that he used his whip on an area other than down the shoulder or on the hind quarters.
The Stewards cautioned A.W. Short on this occasion having considered his record in this regard.
