Brian Ellison has taken Definitly Red out of the Randox Health Grand National at Aintree on April 14.

The North Yorkshire handler instead plans to run him in the Betway Bowl at the Merseyside circuit two days earlier.

Ellison said: "That's the plan at the moment.

"He had a hard race in the Gold Cup. He's not the biggest horse in the world and he hated that ground.

"He's come out of the race grand and he's eaten up and everything.

"It was the plan to go for that (Betway Bowl) before the Gold Cup so I imagine that's where we'll go."

Definitly Red was sent off an 8-1 chance for the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday but he was comprehensively defeated by Native River and ended up finishing sixth.

The nine-year-old competed in the National last season but his saddle slipped and he was pulled up by Danny Cook.
