Pat Flynn had a winner and two seconds from three runners at the last meeting at Clonmel. The local handler struck again when Dixie Highway prevailed in good style in the Megs 80th Celebration Handicap Hurdle this evening at Powerstown Park under Mark Enright.
You wouldn't think the son of Jeremy was still a maiden after twenty outings, by the way he travelled up looking a winner from before the straight.
Eventual runner-up Supreme Vinnie still had a chance around the bypassed last, but Dixie Highway soon eased on to score by a length and three parts.
Favourite Walkabout was another length back in third.
"He is owned by a school mate of mine, Frank Terry, who lives in New York. He couldn't make it today. I've always thought he was a very good horse and thank god he won!" commented Flynn.
"I might go to Cork with him tomorrow if he comes out of the race well. He wouldn't be gone on wicked hard ground."
R. Loughran, rider of Invincible Don trained by J. Morrison, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount pulled a front shoe during this race.
