Robbie Downey rode out his claim at Sligo this evening when the jockey steered Ice Storm to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Handicap for trainer Eddie Lynam.

Ice Storm got up close home to score a neck win over Downtown Diva and afterwards both men were gracious in victory, with Downey, notching his 95th winner, later saying “it’s hard luck on Oisin who was sick in the yard this morning and I’d say he’s not feeling any better but that’s the way it goes.

“They went a nice gallop and she did it well. The rain is starting to get into the ground, and it’s probably yielding to soft in the back straight now.”

Lynam, for his part, added “I’ve mixed feelings to be honest. I’m delighted to get a winner but young Jack Davison (trainer of Downtown Diva) years ago as a kid worked for me in the summer. He’s trying to get his first winner and I’d rather I chinned someone else to be honest but such is life.

“Anything from that trip up to a mile suits her and the drop of rain didn’t do her any harm. She managed it.”
