Definite Ruby picked off Draycott Place to justify 8/11 favouritism in the two mile seven beginners’ chase at Downpatrick.

This winner gave Gordon Elliott a Downpatrick treble and Barry Geraghty a double on the day.

Draycott Place(3/1) led the four runners throughout, but Geraghty pushed Definite Ruby up to be on terms at the second last. To Draycott Place’s credit he rallied, but after the last he was readily passed by Definite Ruby who went on to score by four and a half lengths.

Gordon Elliott said: “It’s a lucky spot for us. She deserved it. Barry said the track didn’t suit her great, but wasn’t going to be beaten. I might try and bring her to England for a novice. She has her black type. She’ll probably be covered soon.

“I hadn’t a winner in 10 days and I was in bad form and then I have five in the last two days.”
