Leading jockey Noel Fehily was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth for precautionary X-rays on his back after he suffered a bad fall at Newton Abbot.
Fehily was riding the Nick Mitchell-trained Hinxworth in the totepool Chip And Pin Betting Handicap Hurdle when he fell at the third flight.
The 40-year-old was treated immediately by the on-track medical team, who felt it prudent to call for further support.
"He's been taken to hospital for precautionary X-rays on his back, but he's conscious" said Mitchell.
"He was talking, moving his arms and legs but they just want to be on the safe side.
"You can understand it, in these situations, as you've got to be careful."
Racing at Newton Abbot was delayed by over 30 minutes as medics attended to Fehily.
