Fine Article is certainly well named and the half-brother to Joncol confirmed the promise of his debut effort when taking the concluding bumper at Gowran this afternoon.

The Definite Article gelding had finished second to Westhorpe on his debut at Fairyhouse last month and the pair pulled well clear.

Paul Nolan's charge was sent off the 13/8 favourite for today's event and arrived to challenge, travelling supremely well, under Robbie McNamara in the straight.

He galloped on strongly when asked to go and win his race over a furlong out and recorded a length-and-a-quarter success over Sub Lieutenant

“He was very backward. If he had won the last day we might have pulled the shoes off and left him off but we'll have to think now about giving him one more run in a bumper,” said Nolan.

“He has improved at home and got better in his coat. We went straight chasing with Joncol. This lad is a few inches smaller and we'll have to see.

“Definite Articles all seem to want heavy ground but Robbie is adamant he wants it better. It'll have to be nice and safe to have one more run.

“It didn't look the worst of bumpers today.”
