The Andy Oliver trained Flannery landed some nice bets as he just prevailed in the Gowran Golf Memberships 2016 from E600 Apprentice Handicap.

The four-year-old son of Excellent Art opened at 16/1 on-course but was well-backed and went off at just 10's under Conor Hoban.

Settled towards the rear he made progress in the early straight. He was ridden in a three way go for the lead from a furlong out, just getting up on the line to prevail by a nose. Along The Shore (11/2) finished second under Ana O'Brien for her father Aidan while Settle For Red (13/2) was a further half a length back in third under Connor King for David Marnane.

The 3/1 favourite Super Focus (6/1 this morning) finished sixth under Daniel Redmond for Jim Bolger.

Conor Hoban said afterwards: "It's nice to get a winner for Andy Oliver who has been a good supporter of mine.

"He did it well and stuck it out. He appreciated the ease in the ground and with a bit of luck he'll win another one."
