Flying Fairies kept on best to prevail in the apprentice handicap over a mile in the Curragh.

Killian Leonard sent her after Club Wexford approaching the two marker. Club Wexford was a gritty opponent though and increased the lead racing to the final furlong.

Flying Fairies got into full stride and wore down the leader in the final 150 yards and stayed on well to post a victory by a length and three parts at 4/1.

Club Wexford, the 7/2 favourite, had to settle for second with Vastonea finishing strongly for third at 8/1. He was half a length off the runner-up.

Handler Joseph Murphy said: "I'm delighted with that. It might not have been the best of races but she did it well.

“She's a very genuine honest filly and I think she'll get better with age. She's paying her way and making a living like us all.

“She handles any ground as long as it is not extremes.”

This made it two career successes for Flying Fairies who won her maiden at Fairyhouse in June. She has also been placed in four of her nine outings.
