The father and son alliance of Tom and Bryan Cooper enjoyed a victory in Galway with For Pedro in the extended two and a quarter mile handicap hurdle.

The eight-year-old gelding made headway into second at the last as he hunted down Aoibhe's Beau

He soon grabbed the lead on the run-in and stuck at it best to win by two and a half lengths at 10/1.

Aoibhe's Beau finished second at 7/1 with Rathnaleen Girl (12/1) third and Danse Away fourth at 8/1.

Tom Cooper said: "He had plenty of goes but got there eventually. He was always knocking on the door and had a nice run back at Listowel from getting a leg. He improved plenty from then and we were just waiting for an ease in the ground.

"He got a leg twice in the past and we'll keep going now and hopefully he stays sound. There could be another in him over hurdles before the goes over fences."

Regarding training, he added: "I'm on a different route now and am doing a lot of pre-training for Mr (Andrew) Brooks in England; I have a good share of young flat horses myself at the moment and will have six or seven to run over jumps this winter."
