Giant's Quest sends favourite backers home happy

Giant's Quest got a well-judged waiting ride from Robbie McNamara to land the concluding Mallow.ie Flat Race at Cork.

The Giant's Causeway gelding was last with a circuit to go but he made good progress from halfway up the inside, he led over a furlong out before going on to beat the similarly ridden Exit Starkey by a length and a quarter.

Winning trainer Dermot Kelly, enjoying his first success in seven years said: "I've only started back training last year. I have six riding out at the moment. This fellow is a very nice horse and we thought he'd win at Punchestown (finished down the field).

"I have to thank one of his owners, Bernard Carroll as he thought we should give him another run in a bumper. I had him entered on the flat in Clonmel.

"He'll definitely have a go on the flat now. He's probably a ten to twelve furlong horse. Leo McCormack a part-owner had a winner at Sligo on Monday with Tin Town Boy so it's great for him.

"Robbie said he could go for a winners bumper now as he's one of the best that he's ridden this year."
