Jeremy's Girl overcame a 500 day layoff, as she ran out an easy winner of the Oran Handicap for the father and son team of Ger and Colin Keane.
A dual winner for Lester Winters, the eight-year-old daughter of Jeremy was making her debut for Ger Keane and owner Eleanor Morris this evening.
Available at 33/1 in early morning shows, that price was quickly taken, and she eventually went off a 12/1 chance.
Soon sent to the front, she made all and extended her advantage from the two furlong pole, keeping on well inside the final furlong to score by an eased down length and a half. No Way Jack kept on to take second under Wayne Lordan for Pat Martin at 10/1, while Greanta (14/1) was another four and a quarter lengths back in third with Rory Cleary in the saddle for his father Tom. Miss Ballygally was sent off the 7/2 favourite and she finished a disappointing thirteenth under Conor McGovern for Mark McNiff.
The winning handler said afterwards: "We only have her this year. I actually thought she'd need the run as she's very fat at home.
"She was working well and I thought she'd run respectable but that she'd be better the next day. She done it well and she's a decent enough filly I'd say.
"She's very ground dependant I'd say looking at her form. We'll keep her in that type of company.
"She has run over hurdles but was well out the back on her three runs. I'd say she'd probably have a very low mark over hurdles and if the owners allow us to go hurdling we could go that route as well."
STEWARDS REPORTS
C.D. Hayes, rider of Polymnia (GB) trained by Edward U.Hales, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stumbled on leaving the stalls.
P.J. Smullen, rider of Byron Beauty trained by H.Rogers, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran short of room in the early part of this race.
