At odds of 66/1 Carrigeen Lotus gave it a good go in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF 4-Y-O Fillies Flat Race but she was eventually reeled in and beaten by second favourite Castra Vetera

This was a really commendable effort on the part of Castra Vetera, given that she was winning on debut in what were very testing conditions.

Stoutly-bred Carrigeen Lotus, with the benefit of a run under her belt, led before halfway and she was ridden clear entering the straight.

Both Castra Vetera and Carrigeen Lotus are daughters of the late lamented Jeremy, and the former proved superior from under a furlong out to score by seven lengths.

They were nineteen lengths clear of bronze medallist, More Info at the line.

Joseph O’Brien has care of Castra Vetera for Gigginstown House Stud and Tom Hamilton did the steering.

Representing the Piltown team Brendan Powell commented: “Tom said she coped with the ground but she wouldn’t have been in love with it. She’s obviously a good filly.

“She’s a beautiful mover and I know Jeremy’s go on soft ground but I don’t think she would want it that bad.

“She looks a gelding and is a fine big mare. Hopefully she has a good future.”
