Denis Hogan finished 2019 with a best ever total on the level of 28 winners, to give him 11th place in the Irish Flat Trainers Championship. Attentions are focussed on the jumps campaign for the County Tipperary handler now though.

Make A Challenge has proven to be a dream like acquisition for Hogan, winning six races from five up to seven furlongs. The Invincible Spirit gelding rounded things off with a very creditable fifth placing in the Group One Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot in October.

At the other end of the spectrum staying is the name of the game when it comes to Hogan inmates Moyhenna and Moskovite. Those half-sisters are owned by Mayo owner/breeder Robert Hennelly.

Moyhenna is entered in a conditions chase at Gowran Park and a handicap hurdle at Navan this weekend.

“Moyhenna missed a bit in October and might not make this weekend. We had to go easy with her,” admitted Hogan.

He added: “She’s also in the Drinmore but that was more of a speculative entry. She could run in an 80 grand handicap at Navan (eCOMM Merchant Solutions Handicap Hurdle) on December 7.”

Moskovite, a grey like her mother, Moskova, began in point-to-points, and she’s now making her way in the chasing world on the racecourse proper.

“Moskovite will go to Fairyhouse next week for the (2m4f) mares handicap chase,” revealed the Boherna, Cloughjordan operator.
