Grant van Niekerk Hong Kong Jockey Club
South African jockey Grant van Niekerk has had his licence to ride in Hong Kong revoked with immediate effect.
The 28-year-old was lying in fifth place in the Hong Kong jockeys' table with 34 winners this season.
The Hong Kong Jockey club issued the following statement -
"The Licensing Committee today withdrew Club Jockey’s Licence previously issued to Grant van Niekerk with immediate effect. This decision was as a result of a conduct-related matter which does not pertain to any race riding or other racing integrity-related matter."
Van Niekerk's six intended mounts at Wednesday's meeting at Happy Valley have been reallocated to other jockeys.
Apprentice Jockey Jerry Chau Chun Lok is likely to replace Van Niekerk on a more permanent basis once he passes a medical and completes a period of isolation on his return from Australia.
