Aso may make his next appearance in the Fitzdares Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon.

The Venetia Williams-trained nine-year-old won competitive handicaps at Newbury and Cheltenham last season — and returned to Prestbury Park in March to beat all bar Frodon in the Ryanair Chase.

He made a satisfactory start to his campaign when third in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby — and Williams views next Sunday’s Peterborough Chase as an ideal stepping-stone to a potential shot at the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.

“Aso might run in the Peterborough Chase,” said the Herefordshire trainer.

“He will have an entry in that, then he will hopefully head to Kempton at Christmas.

“I talked to the owners this week about the Peterborough being a possibility, so we might just do that.

“Everything has been fine since his run at Wetherby.”
