Jetez made virtually all to land the opening maiden hurdle at Limerick for Jessica Harrington and Robbie Power.

The five-year-old gelding saw off 16 rivals with a powerful front-running display to reward those who backed him from 15/8 to 5/4 favourite. Storm Rising (12/1) closed before the second last but a good jump at the final flight by Jetez saw him beat that rival by a length and a half. Mr Everest kept on nicely for third at 25/1. He was half a length further back on his first start over hurdles having been awarded a race in the stewards' room in a Curragh maiden last June.

Robbie Power said: "He had some good runs in maidens on soft ground but he is a real good-ground horse.

"The drop back to two miles wasn't ideal for him and he could be very competitive on good ground in novice hurdles during the summer.

"He has plenty of experience and put that to good use and he wants 2m 4f."

Jessica Harrington, in Naas, added: “I’ve been waiting since the beginning of February for good ground for him. Two miles was a bit short for him so we will be looking for a two and a half mile novice.”
