The market gave a good steer to the result of race two as Jetz justified strong late support to land the Book Your Christmas Party At Fairyhouse December 16th Maiden Hurdle.

Favourite Monbeg Worldwide was weak for the two and a half miler, as money came for Jetz, which forced his price from 6/1 into 4/1.

Robbie Power assumed the pace setting role for the final circuit and Jetz made the rest.

No doubt connections will have been content with Monbeg Worldwide (2nd) and Canardier (3rd). They couldn't live with Jetz over the closing couple of hurdles this time though. The margins at the line were five lengths and a nose.

"He had a lot of problems with his back last year and he still hung badly left the whole way today," said Power on Jessica Harrington's charge.

"Maybe he'll take a run or two to get his confidence back. He jumped an awful lot better, jumped really well today, and galloped away well.

"He'd been working well at home and we've been very happy with him. Like a few of ours, we were afraid he might take the run. He took a blow, filled himself, and stayed going again.

"He kind of half ran away with me for the first half a mile so it wasn't the plan to make it. There was no point in two of us fighting, he wanted to get on with things and he had the experience.

"He'll definitely stay three miles and he'll be an awful lot better horse going left-handed."

The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Monbeg Worldwide, trained by Gordon Elliott, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal and samples were taken for analysis.

D.N. Russell, rider of Western Command trained by Gordon Elliott, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was very keen early on.
