Stephanie Kate fifth to Quevega in the David Nicholson Mares Hurdle last year, could return to the Cheltenham Festival for another crack at that two and a half mile event after making all to take the Munster Hurdle over the same trip at Clonmel.
The 2/1 chance had her task eased considerably with the absence of Back In Focus (temperature) and Dressedtothenines (in season) but she took full advantage.
Jumping proved the key in the straight as nearest pursuer Tofino Bay (5/1) was a shade awkward two out and lost any chance when flattening the last.
David Casey made the best of his way home on the front-runner, and she had two lengths to spare at the line, with well-backed 13/8 favourite Turban (stiff post-race) finding little in the straight to finish a disappointing fourth.
Winning trainer Charlie Swan said, “Her owner Philip Reynolds should go skiing more often, and he missed her last win as well. She’s tough and stays well but idles a bit in front.
“We might go back for the Mares race at Cheltenham. She was fifth last year when she was a bit unlucky in running. She’s older and more mature now.
“She’s better going left-handed as she leans a bit that way. She will stay hurdling for this season, and go back as a novice over fences next season.”
