Killaro Boy produced a game front-running performance to land the spoils in the At The Races Careys Cottage Cup Handicap Chase at Gowran Park.

Sean Flanagan was soon in front on the eight-year-old and he responded well down the straight when pressed. The Gatechecker and Winter Magic both tried to get on terms from the third last. A peck two out put Killaro Boy under pressure but he picked up well from the last.

The Gatechecker, the 9/2 joint favourite, blundered at the final fence and has to settle for the runner-up spot as Adrian Murray's charge went on for a two-length success.

The 13/2 winner was making his first start in handicap company over fences in the two-and-a-half mile contest.

"He won his point-to-point first time out on good ground and won over hurdles on soft ground. He stays forever. I'm not sure where he'll go next but great to get that win today,” said Murray.
