On start number five for Johnny Levins, and in a first time hood and cheek-pieces combination, Arlecchino's Rock landed the CBE Handicap at Dundalk under Donagh O'Connor.

The former Mark Usher-trained Chelmsford City winner, stormed home in this seven furlong event to touch off Windsorlot by a short-head.

Arlecchino's Rock came through from the rear for his success, in a contest where just over three lengths separated the first nine home.

Levins reflected afterwards: "I put a hood and cheek-pieces on but he showed lovely battling qualities there. I wanted to get him in his own little world. Whether that worked or not I don't know but he's getting into a groove now and he could turn out to be a nice genuine horse.

"I was happy with that performance and he could win a couple more. I think six or seven is his trip — five might be a bit sharp."

The winning owner, Rory Browne, is based in Germany.

P.J. Smullen, rider of Twistsandturns trained by Patrick J.Flynn, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount lost his action about 100 yards from the finish.
