After finishing third at Fairyhouse recently Big Bad Lily went two places better at the Curragh this afternoon, as she took the TRI Equestrian Superstore & Café Handicap under Wayne Lordan for Ken Condon.
The six-year-old daughter of Big Bad Bob (a second winner on the card for him after Bertie Le Belge took the first) carried bottom weight here of eight stone five and she was sent off a 10/1 chance.
Drawn on the rail in stall twenty-two the bay filly was settled towards the rear in the early stages before making ground when ridden from the two furlong pole.
She came with her challenge inside the final furlong, getting to the front with 150 yards to race before going on to score by two lengths. Doonard Prince who was available at 14/1 last night, finished second at 8/1 under Ross Coakley for Liz Doyle while Camakasi was a short head back in third under Shane Kelly for Mick Halford at 20/1. Pencil Hill completed the placings a further half a length back in fourth under Gary Phillips for Tracey Collins at 16/1 while the 13/2 favourite (opened at 11/2 on-course) Wishyouwerehere finished a disappointing twelfth under Pat Smullen for Eddie Lynam. Invincible Ridge was well supported on track from 10's into 7's but he also disappointed, finishing fourteenth under Kevin Manning for Darren Bunyan.
Ken Condon said afterwards: "She won well in a hood for me last year, she used to be a little bit anxious and keen.
"This year she seems to have got used to it, and we put a visor back on her at Fairyhouse and that form was franked yesterday when Pixie Spirit won.
"She travelled well all the way although it looked like the ones in the centre had a clear lead at one point.
"She was due a win but it is unlikely that she will be able to carry a penalty."
